“Why This In Odisha Time And Again?”

Bhubaneswar: “The said hospital did not have clearance of fire safety measures. In spite of this, it was running. Health Department comes under the State and I am waiting for the action by the State Government,” said J.P. Nadda, Union Minister, Health at a press meet here on Wednesday after taking stock of the SUM Hospital
fire tragedy.
“The system of management should be more comprehensive. We have to re-visit these issues. A fresh advisory will be given soon to all States so that such incidents do not take place in future,” he added.
Nadda also stressed, “The culprits should not go unpunished and more stringent rules should be made that the protocols and guidelines are followed.”
Saying that Health being a State subject, the Union Health Minister commented, “The State Government has to see a protocol should be set, and they should be pro-active, and react to such issues in time.”
“Why is that such health lapses take in Odisha time and again, may it be the SUM Hospital tragedy or the JE outbreak which has claimed about 55 lives of children in recent times,” Nadda remarked.
The press meet was also addressed by Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister, Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Pradhan said, “We’re waiting and watching what the State Government is going to do in this case. Gradually, healthcare has gone to the private sector. Many private sector hospitals have developed in Odisha. How far they pass in the protocol is to be noticed. The State Government should see that the protocol under the Clinical Establishment Act is duly followed by all the hospitals in the State including the Government hospitals.”
