Four SUM Hospital Staff Arrested For Fire Tragedy

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday evening arrested four officials of Sum Hospital where a major fire broke out yesterday killing 20 persons and injuring several others.
According to reports, Khandagiri Police has arrested the four hospital staffers on the basis of complaint lodged by Directorate of Fire Services today alleging gross violation of following safety norms.
Speaking to media persons here, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Twin City Police Commissioner Y.B. Khurania said, “Those arrested are Medical Superintendent Puspa Raj Samantasinghar, Amulya Sahu Electrical Maintenance Engineer, Fire Safety Officer Santosh Das and Junior Engineer (Electrical Maintenance) Malaya Kumar Sahu.”
They have been charged under sections 304, 308, 285 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The FIR was lodged at the Khandagiri police station by Fire Officer (Central Range) B. B. Das.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) registered a suo motu case over the fire mishap and asked the Health Secretary Arti Ahuja and Fire Service Director General Binay Behera to submit a report within three weeks
