Man Sets Wife On Fire For Cooking Tasteless Chicken Dish

Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a man has set his young wife on fire merely because she forgot to add salt to a chicken dish she had cooked at home.

The victim with almost 90% burn injuries was first admitted to a local hospital for treatment before being shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.

The heart-rending incident happened in Burujhuri village of Beguniapada block under Kodala Police limits.

According to reports, Draoupadi Sahu (22), served the cooked chicken to her husband Babi Sahu (35), an auto driver,when he returned home after the day’s work on Saturday night but when he ate, he found the dish tasteless as it had no salt, leaving him extremely infuriated.

In a fit of rage, the man grabbed the kerosene bottle, poured kerosene on his wife and then lit the match stick before locking her in one of the rooms as she screamed for help.

Someone in the area who heard her scream informed the local police who reached the spot and rescued the victim who was battling for life in her solitary confinement. Immediately, she was moved to a local hospital for treatment. Doctors say the victim has suffered more than 90 per cent burn injuries and her condition is still critical.

“I served the meal after he returned home finishing his day’s work and after sometime he shouted at me by saying the dish has no salt and tasteless. Then, he poured kerosene on me and lit the matchstick,” the victim said in a broken voice while lying on the hospital bed.

Notably the couple is married for the last six years. The accused husband was arrested by the police on Sunday evening after an FIR was lodged by the victim's family.
