Manoj Nayak Being Interrogated: Police Commissioner

Bhubaneswar: After the surrender of SUM Hospital’s owner Manoj Nayak in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday and following his arrest by the Commissionerate Police, Police Commissioner Y.B. Khurania on Thursday addressed a press meet to brief the development.

Highlights of the Press Meet:

We have arrested five in the connection to the fire mishap at SUM Hospital within a span of 48 hours.

Yesterday (Wednesday) we had issued a lookout circular for two of the trustees, Manoj Nayak and his wife Saswati Das, to prevent them from escaping from the country as they had passports.

The remaining trustees will also be called for interrogation in the investigation process. Manoj Nayak had surrendered at 3:30 am on Thursday morning after which the police has started interrogating him.

All the important documents have been seized and the statements of the witnesses are being recorded.

A case has been registered under 304, 308, 285, and 34 IPC in which there is a pronouncement of 7-10 years of imprisonment. These are non-bailable offences.

It is not in our domain to close down the institution, but the spot where the tragic incident took place is sealed and under police custody. The fire staff, inspector of electricity safety and a scientific team have collected physical evidences from the spot.
