BJD To Form Human Chain From Hirakud To Paradip Over Mahanadi Issue
Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its protest over Mahanadi water dispute, the Odisha Government has decided to form a human chain from Hirakud to Paradip in 15 districts besides launching a signature collection campaign at Panchayat level from next month.
The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will collect signatures from 86 lakh families across the State to protest the projects by Chhattisgarh. The signatures would be sent to the President.
Addressing a press conference here, senior BJD spokesperson Surya Narayan Patro said, “The BJD has proposed the State Government to take legal help to resolve the matter. Besides, the party would launch a signature campaign at Panchayat level to collect signatures from 86 lakh families to protest the projects on Mahanadi. The signatures would be sent to the President.”
Apart from signature campaign, a human chain would also be formed from Hirakud to Paradip in 15 districts. The date for the human chain would be decided at a meeting to be held on November 7, Patro added.
The regional party also blamed the Centre by alleging that the Prime Minister is not taking enough steps to sort out the matter.
