Raid On Dance Bars In Bhubaneswar For Playing Music Without License: Police Commissioner


Bhubaneswar: The Friday night raids on the bars and restaurants in city were conducted after receiving allegations that they were playing music without license, said Twin City Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty on Sunday.

As per section 29 of Odisha Urban Police Act 2003, the Commissionerate Police can grant license for playing of music for entertainment purpose.

Mohanty informed that the music license is issued quarterly (every three months) and the same had not been issued since last quarter. Besides, there were also allegations of some other illegal activities going on in the bars.

In view of this the raids were conducted on around 11 bars and restaurants, where music was being played in violation of the norms, he added.

It is worthwhile to mention that the Commissionerate Police during the raid had also rescued 96 girls who were performing dance in the bars.
