After Rasgulla Victory, Fmr Odisha Minister Demands GI Tag For ‘Aarisa’, ‘Kakara’ And ‘Rasabli’
Bhubaneswar: A day after Chennai-based GI-Registry granted GI tag recognition to Odisha Rasgulla, senior politicians of the State demanded the special identification for other Odisha-made confectionaries.
Former Minister and senior BJD leader Debi Prasad Mishra today said that he has often spotted ‘Aarisa’ (jaggery-cake) in restaurants at Israel. “During our trips abroad, I have seen cultural and fooding similarities between Odisha and Ethiopia.
“It was because of our great maritime history, Odisha food made way into different parts of the world, and became famous. Sweetmeats and confectionaries such as Aarisa, Rasabali and Kakara are unique and delicious. These items definitely deserve the GI tag,” Mishra said.
