Bhubaneswar: A partial eclipse of the Moon beginning from 1:31 am tonight will be visible in all places of India except from extreme north eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh where the ending of the partial eclipse will not be visible.
What is a Lunar Eclipse? An eclipse takes place when the Sun, Moon and Earth are aligned in a line. During a lunar eclipse, the Earth comes between the path of the Moon and the Sun and casts a shadow on its satellite Moon.
Timings: The Moon will be gradually covered by the Earth’s shadow and the maximum partial eclipse will occur at 3:00 am when about a little more than half portion of the Moon will be covered by the Earth’s shadow. The partial eclipse will end at 4:30 am.
Interesting Fact: As per reports, this year’s lunar eclipse is also important because it is taking place with Guru Purnima at the same day after 149 years. This is the last lunar eclipse of this year and the next lunar eclipse will take place on May 26, 2021.
Visibility: Along with India, the eclipse will be visible in the region covering Australia, Asia except north east, Africa, Europe except northernmost Scandinavia and most of South America. Total duration of the eclipse is 2 hours 59 minutes.
