Odisha: Woman Issued E-Challan For Driving Car Without Helmet, RTO Seeks Report From Officer
Cuttack: It may sound bizarre and unbelievable but a Cuttack woman was reportedly penalized for driving her car without helmet. The matter came to fore after Shradha Das, a student of National Law University (NLU) in Cuttack tweeted the matter to Cuttack RTO.
The tweet shows a computer generated e-challan that has charged Das with the offence of driving without a helmet.
"Offences like Without seat belt/without helmet come under general offence u/S 177 of MV act and the fine is also same. But in the e-challan device such options are shown under a drop down box where the officer has to select," replied Cuttack's Regional Transport Office.
Assuming that a mistake had been at that step, a report has been sought from the officer.
