‘Deer’ Most Hunted Animal In Odisha, 106 Killed In 3 Years | Odisha News


Bhubaneswar: While the Forest and Environment Department has launched several programmes to check the activities of hunters in Odisha jungles, these animal-killers continue to enjoy a free run. According to the data provided by the Minister Bikarm Keshari Arukh today, deer is the most hunted wild animal in Odisha.

As many as 106 deers of different varieties have been killed in Odisha between 2016 and 2019. The killings were maximum in 2017-18 when 44 deer were killed. The number was 28 in 2016-17 and 34 in 2018-19, Arukh’s response to a question revealed.

The Minister added that total 6 Cheetah were killed during the same period (between 2016 and 2019). Similarly, 6 elephants were hunted by poachers in the past three years. “There has been no decision yet, on establishing 5 special courts for the trial of Wildlife Animal Crime cases,” he said.
