Simultaneous Elections Idea Was First Mooted By Odisha CM: MP Pinaki Mishra
Bhubaneswar: In context of a meeting with the Law Commmission of India over the simultaneous conduct of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha, BJD’s Puri MP Pinaki Mishra said that the idea was originally mooted by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The Law Commission, in a letter addressed to the Odisha CM in June this year, had sought an appointment with Naveen on July 7 or July 8 at its headquarters in New Delhi. The Commission stated that it reached out to the public already, and is now seeking the opinion of political parties which will contest in the Assembly elections scheduled in 2019.
However, the said meeting after being rescheduled will be held on Tuesday 3 PM where Mishra would be appearing before the Commission on behalf of his party.
“I will submit a written representation of our party point of view on the conduct of simultaneous elections, as per which the idea was originally mooted and implemented by Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik in 2004,” said Mishra.
