Rath Yatra 2018: 1000 Police Officers Mobilised, 140 Platoons To Be Deployed

Bhubaneswar: At least 1000 police officers from the ranks of Sub-Inspector (SI) to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) have been mobilised for the upcoming Rath Yatra in Puri, informed Odisha DGP RP Sharma after chairing a meeting of senior police officials here today.

After the meeting, Sharma informed that the security arrangements for the Rath Yatra are at its final stages. The motive of the meeting was to establish coordination between the police officials who have been given different charges for smooth conduct of the festival. In view of the issues and challenges faced during Rath Yatra last year, discussions were held on how to address them this year.

"Various senior officers have been given charges of temple security, traffic management, crowd management and contingency plan. ADG (Provisioning) Satyajit Mohanty is in charge of all the arrangements. IG rank officers will be given major supervisory charges who will be assisted by DIG, Deputy Commandant, SP, ASP, Commandant rank officers," he added.
