Fraud In Name Of Setting Telecom Tower, 6 Held In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Six persons allegedly cheating people in the name of establishing tower of a reputed telecom company were held by the Special Squad of Commissionerate Police here on Tuesday.

"Some persons from West Bengal had published an advertisement for installation of Reliance Jio tower in West Bengal and had promised to pay over Rs 50,000 per month. They had invited applications for the purpose and after selection of suitable land had invited the applicants to Bhubaneswar to sign the agreement. The applicants had been asked to come with Rs 1.02 lakh in cash to sign the documents after which they were supposed to get an Rs 15 lakh cheque each," said Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Kumar Sahoo, today.

Acting on a tip off, the special squad conducted a raid on a Bhubaneswar-based hotel and apprehended two people, posing as representatives of the telecom company. On further interrogation they revealed the whereabouts of a few more persons who were nabbed from Kuakhai river over bridge, during an attempt to flee from the city, Sahoo added.
