If Non-Hindus Are Allowed Entry Into Srimandir, Rath Yatra May Stop: Puri MLA

Puri/Bhubaneswar: As the Supreme Court’s recent suggestion on the entry of non-Hindus into the Puri Jagannath Mandir has stirred a hornet’s nest in the pilgrim city, Puri MLA-cum-Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Maheswar Mohanty apprehended that such a new practice would prove the significance of age-old tradition of Rath Yatra a misnomer.

Notably, non-Hindus are hitherto prohibited from entry into the Srimandir for which special notice board has been vividly displayed at the Lions Gate or Singhadwar of the Srimandir in Puri.

In his reactions, the Puri MLA-cum-Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister said, “Jagannath Temple is pretty old. Its rituals and festivals are very much different from other deities of the temples in India. Comparing its rituals and traditions with other temple is uncalled for, not at all agreeable.”
