Broad Daylight Bank Robbery In Angul, Rs 8 Lakh Cash & Ornaments Looted At Gunpoint
Angul: In a daring broad daylight heist, at least four unidentified armed miscreants looted Rs 8 lakh cash and some gold ornaments at gunpoint from the Indian Bank branch located at Harimahuri Chhak in the district headquarters town here today morning.
The robbers attacked the bank at around 10 am in the morning, when it had just opened for the day. The miscreants ordered the manager to open the vault with the valuables and when the manager refused to do so, they thrashed him and took out their firearms threatening to shoot everyone in the bank. The terrified manger gave into their demands and opened the strong room.
The looters then decamped with around Rs 8 lakhs cash and mortgaged gold ornaments. Along with that, they have also taken the hard drive with the CCTV footage in it.
The police reached the spot and started investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the bank manager was rushed to the nearest hospital.
Angul DIG Narasingh Bhola said, “We have alerted all the police stations in Angul. In addition to that, we have also informed the police in the neighbouring districts of Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Rourkela and Dhenkanal to seal all the exit routes and intensify routine check-ups.”
