Pangolin Scales Smuggling: Odisha STF Uncovers Links With China, Myanmar, Seeks Interpol Help
Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force of Odisha Crime Branch has busted that the chain of Pangolin trade originated from Odisha and was routed through West Bengal, Mizoram and Assam just to land in Myanmar and China. This was revealed by Crime Branch DIG Himanshu Lal today.
“The chain of Pangolin trade was beginning from Odisha and was going through West Bengal, Mizoram and Assam, to Myanmar and China”, said Himanshu Lal.
Earlier on June 18, Shamsuddin Khan was arrested from Dashapalla by officials of Mahanadi Wildlife Division for his involvement in smuggling of wildlife products for over two decades. After speculations of international links in the trading of Pangolin scales, the Crime Branch of Odisha Police had taken over the investigation on June 24. Later on June 28, his son Allah Rakha was arrested for smuggling Pangolin scales.
With the information shared by Khan, a mastermind from Mizoram, Laltten Kujungku, was nabbed by the STF on July 2. Following that, Assam’s Amir Hussain Laskar, the kingpin of the trade in India was also arrested on Friday.
Lal added, “All the main accused from India have now been arrested. We are now in talks with the Interpol in order to nab the suspects from China and Myanmar.”
