Odisha: National Highway Cut To Siphon Rain Water In Puri, Marooned Residents Breathe Sigh Of Relief


Puri: After two months of incessant troubles due to pounding rains and water-logging in the localities of Sujata Nagar, Matitota, Mukanda Nagar, and Gopinathpur, the marooned residents can finally breathe a sigh of relief as officials of National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) have cut the NH to drain out the stormwater.

Under the instructions of District Collector Jyoti Prakas Das, a team from the NHAI cut a part of the NH connecting Puri Bangalaghata to Harakrushnapur to divert the rainwater and deal with the water-logging problem that had been persisting since Rath Yatra. The NH has been blocked disallowing vehicular movement during of the course of this process.

In the past two months, the water-logging situation had aggravated to a point where sewage water had seeped into the localities spreading the fear of water-borne diseases.
