7 Facts About Sikkim’s First And India’s 100th Airport At Pakyong


Gangtok: A Himalayan engineering marvel, the first in Sikkim, and the 100th operational airport in the country was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 24th September (Monday). Spreading across 201 acres of land, it is already creating a buzz in the social media for its scenic beauty.

It is believed that the tourism sector of the State will boost once the airport becomes functional from next month. These are some facts one should know about Pakyong airport.

1: It is located on the top of a hill, nearly 2 kms above Pakyong village at 4500 feet above sea level.

2: It is just 33 kms away from the State capital city – Gangtok. Earlier, tourists and visitors had to travel for 124 km uphill from the nearest airport Bagdogra in West Bengal to reach the capital city.
