Cyclone Fani To Recurve Towards Odisha Coast, NERC Issues Advisory | Odisha News


Bhubaneswar: The National Emergency Response Centre issued advisory on cyclone FANI in Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar, Puducherry, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Till 2:30 AM, FANI lay centered over Bay of Bengal, about 640 kms east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 710 kms east-southeast of Chennai and 810 kms southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), the advisory stated.

"It is very likely to intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during the next 12 hours and into an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move northwestwards till May 1 evening and thereafter recurve north-northeastwards towards Odisha coast," the advisory bulletin added.

Light to moderate rainfall at few places is very likely over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south coastal Odisha on May 2nd. It is likely to increase with rain fall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over coastal Odisha and adjoining districts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh on 3rd and 4th May.
