Srimandir ‘Dhadi Darshan’ Revolt: Normalcy Limps Back To Puri City, Restrictions Relaxed A Bit

Puri: A day after the violent scene on Bada Danda (Grand Road), normalcy limped back to the pilgrim city today as the contentious ‘Dhadi Darshan’ (queue system) restrictions were relaxed a bit for the local devotees as well as at certain points of the temple premises for other devotees.

In his media reactions, Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi said, “Relaxation has been made in the Dhadi Darshan rules. Normalcy has been restored. Police maintained utmost restraint during yesterday’s incident though over 30-40 people have sustained some amount of injuries. We have been successful in restoring normalcy and maintaining peace.”

“There was heavy stone pelting from all sides while the police personnel were standing here before the Singhadwara (Lion’s Gate). I refute the allegation against our police force entering the temple wearing shoes for shelter. I was very much present here. Despite that, we observed maximum restraint in a bid to maintain the law and order situation. I’m thankful to the residents of Puri for allowing normalcy to limp back soon,” the Central IG remarked.
