Queue System At Puri Srimandir Triggers Furore
Puri: Resentment over the newly implemented queue system (Dhadi Darshan) at Puri Srimandir took a violent turn today with thousands of devotees uprooting the barricades put at the temple and vandalising the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) office.
Activists of Shree Jagannath Sena, a local socio-cultural outfit, along with thousands of Puri public not only blocked road by burning tyres on Bada Danda, they even barged into the house of Puri MLA Maheswar Mohanty and damaged properties.
The unrest ensued after Shree Jagannath Sena called for a bandh in Puri questioning the implementation of queue system. Following it police took convener of Shree Jagannath Sena, Priyadarshan Patnaik, into preventive custody.
Devotees had defied the queue system on the first day of its implementation yesterday. When the temple gate was thrown open for public, several devotees entered the Srimandir in large groups without obeying the queue system.
