Plastic Ban In Odisha: BMC To Register FIR Against Repeat Offenders | Odisha News
Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has decided to impose heavy penalty on those vendors and shopkeepers who deliver goods in single-use plastic. The Corporation officials today said that people have been informed about the ban one year back in October 2018.
There are four squads, three each in every zone in Bhubaneswar and one in the BMC headquarters which enforce plastic ban. Even for first-time offenders the penalty is going to be high as the awareness drive has been launched since one year. For repeat offenders we will lodge FIRs," a senior BMC official said.
The official added that there will be a one-month moratorium for the traders in Bhubaneswar to adjust and make necessary arrangements for plastic-ban. "We have seized 1.6 tonnes of polythene during the enforcement drives so far. 27 packets thermocol and 45 packets of plastic have been confiscated from different areas of Bhubaneswar," he added.
