Women, Transgenders Observe Savitri Puja Across Odisha

Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: All the married women of Odisha made a beeline to the nearby temples with puja thalis in their hands to pray for the well-being and long lives of their respective husbands on the auspicious occasion of Savitri Puja.
With ‘sindoor’, ‘alta’, bangles, sacred thread (Brata) fruits and flowers, women were seen offering prayers to gods and goddesses. The day is significant as Savitri had saved the life of her husband Satyaban from Yamraj (God of death) by her devotion and prayers.
While this puja is associated with the married Indian women across India, transgenders in Odisha too observe fast on this day as they pray for the well-being and long life of their 'gurus'.
