Wildlife Trafficking In Odisha: Crime Branch STF Arrests 6, Seizes Elephant Tusk


Bhubaneswar: In the course of investigation into the pangolin smuggling racket in Odisha, the Special Task Force of Crime Branch arrested six persons today from Mayurbhanj in connection with wildlife trafficking.

The arrested accused have been identified as Agnisar Nayak (50), Lalmohan Nayak (45), Pratap Nayak (48), Kesab Dehuri (50), Gopinath Nayak (49) and Nakula Dehuri(42) of Ambadiha village in Udala. The persons were arrested under Section 51 of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

According to reports, the six accused were sourcing elephant tusks from Simlipal and were spotted selling it in the market.

The accused were arrested last night by the team of STF under the leadership of DSP T.R. Patel. During house search, a piece of elephant tusk weighing 500 gm was recovered from the house of accused Agnisar Nayak.
