Pest Attack Damages 33% Standing Crops In Bolangir & Deogarh: Odisha SRC


Bhubaneswar: As Odisha is prone to natural calamities and related menaces to standing crop, the State Government has declared an area of 10456.64 hectares in two districts of Bolangir and Deogarh as affected by pest attack.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi tweeted, “In the two districts, 1567 villages under 319 Gram Panchayats of 15 blocks and 15 wards of 4 Urban Local Bodies having sustained crop loss of 33 percent and above based on the field verification repots of the Dist Collectors.”

In Bolangir, 1520 villages under 305 GPs of 14 blocks and 15 wards of 4 ULBs have suffered crop damage.
  • Sown area with damage between 33% and 50% to crops- 9008 hectares
  • Sown area with damage above 50% to crops- 1294 hectares
  • Sown area with damage below 33% to crops- 10302 hectares
In Deogarh, crops of 47 villages under 14 GPs of 1 block have been damaged by pest attack.
  • Sown area with damage between 33% and 50% to crops- 154.64 hectares
  • Sown area with damage above 50% to crops- 0 hectares
  • Sown area with damage below 33% to crops- 154.64 hectares

On Saturday, the Odisha government had also declared an additional 67576.94 hectares in 1729 villages under 360 GPs of 21 Blocks and 45 wards of 6 ULBs in 3 districts of Kalahandi, Nuapada and Sambalpur as drought hit on the basis of field verification report received from the Collectors.
