Smart City Bhubaneswar’s Smart Modular Toilets

Bhubaneswar: Scripting a new era in cleanliness and hygiene, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is all set to install prefabricated modular e-toilets across the city at approximately 30 designated locations. With 10 toilets already set up on a trial basis, the public have been anticipating the new step in sanitation since a long time.

In a bid to make Bhubaneswar Open Defecation Free (ODF), Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for this service on Gandhi Jayanti. Out of the planned 60 toilets, 40 are classified into semi-automatic and 20 fully automatic models. The designing and construction of the stainless steel modular toilets has been made completely flexible for the users by BMC in collaboration with Eram Scientific Solutions Private Limited.

A major issue with public toilets is that it becomes a breeding ground of infections but the fully automatic toilets will be capable of cleaning themselves thus resulting in zero infections and illnesses. The fully automatic ones would require card-based entry and the semi-automatic will be manually operated, to have well-maintained hygiene toilets in the city.
