Odisha Hockey WC 2018: Canada, South Africa Keep Hopes Alive After 1-1 Draw
Bhubaneswar: World number 11 Canada and world number 15 South Africa fought hard to attain dominance after facing defeats in their respective Pool C openers. Fortunately, they played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive at Hockey World Cup 2018.
Both teams fought hard in the opening two quarters and did not give each other an inch of advantage to remain goalless at half time. South Africa took the lead in the 43rd minute through a reverse stick field goal by Nqobile Ntuli.
Soon after, Canada equalised two minutes later when they were awarded a penalty stroke and skipper Scott Tupper took the opportunity to level the match.
Thereafter, both Canada and South Africa pressed hard to score the winning goal but they failed to breach the rival defence. The resulted remained at 1-1 draw, keeping both the teams in the hunt for a place in the knock-out round, stated sport critics.
