Pollution Check Turns Torture As Over Dozen Testing Stations Disappear From Bhubaneswar Roads | Odisha News
Bhubaneswar: With new penalty amounts introduced under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, lakhs of vehicle owners are now in a rush to comply with the traffic norms including the issuance of 'pollution under check' (PUC) certificates as violation of PUC norm now invites a penalty of Rs 10,000.
However, vehicle owners in Bhubaneswar are facing a tough time complying with the PUC norm as around 15 mobile pollution testing stations, which were positioned across various roads in the city few days back, have now disappeared.
Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Pradeep Kumar Mohanty informed that while pollution testing stations have been set up at different petrol pumps in city, IDs and passwords for conducting mobile pollution check had been issued to 21 persons.
Out of the 21 mobile pollution testing stations, only six have renewed their IDs and passwords. As a result, remaining 15 testing stations are not able to conduct pollution check therefore have disappeared from the roads to avoid legal action.
