Bhubaneswar: The Excise Department has laid down stringent rules for having female dancers in employ of dance bars of the Capital city. Excise Superintendent Prasanna Acharya on Tuesday briefed regarding the new regulations.
Expressing the department’s objective, Acharya said, “The dance bars already have valid licenses, they just had restriction on induction of female bar dancers. The bars simply need to avail permission from the Excise department as per the Supreme Court’s guidelines, the High Court’s direction, and Government’s approval.”
“The bars will have to adhere to the guidelines under the Excise Act 44(5) to organize the performances. They also have to intimate the Excise Department of the dancers they have inducted and submit copies of their identity proof and fitness certificate. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the women in their employment.”
“We will be conducting surprise visits to the seven bars and action will be taken against those who will be caught flouting rules. Our field officers have been informed accordingly,” concluded Excise Superintendent.
