Bhubaneswar: After flood water was released from 14 gates of Hirakud Dam for several hours on Monday, authorities decided to close 10 gates on Tuesday as water inflow in the reservoir began to recede.

Meanwhile, Jalaka river is flowing above danger level (5.50 meters) at 6.19 meters. However, the water level is receding informed authorities. On the other hand, River Baitarani is flowing at 17.60 meters with respect to danger mark of 17.83 at Akhuapada.

In the wake of swelling in Baitarani, Special Relief Commissioner has put Keonjhar and Jajpur districts on high alert to assess the situation and take all required steps including evacuations of people from low lying areas.
